Heart 4 Heart is a student run non-profit organization driven by a mission to provide life-saving surgeries for children born with CHD in developing countries.  We are one of 11 chapters across North America! It becomes easy to forget that the treatment and access to Healthcare professionals that we have in Canada is not only restricted but potentially non-existent in other parts of the world.  This is not Okay.  Heart 4 Heart mission and give some less fortunate kiddos the treatment that every child deserves.​

What is congenital heart disease?

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a structural and functional defect of the heart that is present at birth. Examples of these defects include holes in the heart, obstructed blood flow, and/or heart valve and vessel abnormalities. Some defects may not require surgery, while many others necessitate the need for surgical intervention immediately. In Canada and most developed nations, children born with CHD are treated immediately without delay. Yet for children born in developing countries, CHD is typically considered to be a death sentence.
